Dr. Kanti Jain is President and Founder of Anvik Corporation. He is also Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the Photonics, Microelectronics, and Microsystems Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since starting Anvik in 1992, he has successfully guided both the business and technical development of the company. Under his leadership, the scope of Anvik's business activities has grown from government-funded research and development contracts - which he successfully leveraged as strategic catalytic investments - to the design, manufacture, and installation of commercial products for high-volume markets.
Prior to founding Anvik, Dr. Jain held a number of senior technical and management positions at I.B.M., Hewlett-Packard, and Raychem. From 1989 to 1991, he was Director of Technology Development in Advanced Packaging Systems at Raychem Corporation, San Jose, CA. From 1979 to 1988, he was with I.B.M., where he served with I.B.M.'s Corporate Technical Committee at the Corporate Headquarters in Armonk, NY; was a Senior Manager and Senior Scientist at the T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY; and was a Manager at the Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA. From 1977 to 1979, he was a Member of Technical Staff at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Palo Alto, CA.
As a result of his more than 30 years of contributions in the advancement of optical imaging and microelectronics manufacturing technologies, Dr. Jain is an internationally recognized scientist and technologist. He is widely recognized for his pioneering development of excimer laser lithography, for which he received two Outstanding Innovation Awards from I.B.M., and which is now used worldwide in semiconductor chip manufacturing. Dr. Jain holds 62 patents (53 issued and allowed, 9 pending) in microlithography systems and optics, has published 56 papers, and has written the book Excimer Laser Lithography, published by SPIE in 1990. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, a Fellow of IEEE, and a Fellow and former Member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of SPIE.
Dr. Jain received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and solid state physics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1975, his M.S. in electrical engineering from the same university, and his B.Tech. (Hons.) degree in electronics and communication engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 1969. From 1975-1977, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at M.I.T., where he conducted research in nonlinear optics.
